Apples and a very BIG Pumpkin

This past weekend we did the traditional Apple and  Pumpkin picking.

Here are some pics.

There weren't many apples left on the trees.

You had to get "in the tree" to get them.

It's easier for the little people to get inside.

A. just could not wait, so he started chomping on one.

These were the empire apples.  Delicious.

Grandpa and the kids.

hmmm... I'm missing a child.

Next on to the pumpkin picking...

These two decided they wanted a
"BIG pumpkin."
(I think hubs had something to do with it)

I said no about a 100 times, but they were adamant.
So I said "you can have it if you bring it over from the field.
Remember girls, they weigh more than the two of you combined."
(insert evil laugh from mom)

We went out to the field and they started pushing a very large pumpkin....

And pushing...

And they got it rolling and rolling.
After watchin them for awhile (huffing and puffing), I
told them to just leave it we would get a smaller one.

hmmm... did I mention they were adamant about getting a
BIG ONE?!?
I relented and let them pick one of the smaller 80 pound ones.
Sheesh

(FYI: We now have a very large pumpkin out front ready to be carved by somebody.)

See the one on the tarp just behind S.? That's the one that came home with us.
(I picked that little guy on the scale)
Have you been apple or pumpkin picking yet??

Fall School Trip to a Farm

Yesterday, I joined little A's Junior Kindergarten class for a trip to a nearby Farm.

Although it was a chilly day, and the weather forecast said rain, it was a fun day for all.
(didn't rain after all)

There was a Corn Field Maze, but the teachers thought it would be best if the kids did this maze instead.
(all the girls, took their time to find their way out, the boys not so much.
They climbed the hay until they got out)

The kids were given oats to feed the animals.

See the one in the black & white? (yeah I see you looking at me)
He tried to eat my backpack when I had my back to him and I got a little too close.
Never turn your back on a cow, people!!!

Just before eating our lunch on these benches.

A tube-slide!

Two seconds before he fell off the bench he was standing on.

He loved this horse swing!

Have you visited a local farm yet this Fall?

More Fall Decorating

Honestly, I think my home looks best decorated in Fall decor.

All the warm colours just makes it soooo.... cozy!

I took a vase that I had from this large candle holder, and filled it with tiny pinecones from outside.
( I took little A and his friend on a pinecone hunt).

I used some flowers from dollar store from last year,
and some sticks left over from my little sister's wedding last year.

I glued the glass top/vase to a glass candle holder I had around.

(I've seen the project being done everywhere. Here's how to make them)

What Fall decorating have you been doing??

I'm partying at some of these places and Julia's party  and Jen's party too!

A little Fall decorating

Have I mentioned that I love Fall??

I love the cooler weather.

I love the Fall colours.

I love a drive in the country to see Fall colours.

Oh yeah... and I love Apple Crisp.

This weekend, while I waited for the telephone tech guy to fix our lines, I got my craft on.

I used things I had around the house.

Remember the console table I made??

I took a square plate , a bowl I turned upside down and made a candle holder thing-ma-jig.

I added black package netting left over from another project...

Add a little spider... (little A wanted in on the decorating)

Added some ribbon.

Then....

I grabbed a terra cotta pot lying around from the orchid plant (that is now dead, ugh).

I tied a bunch of dollar store Fall picks together and...

Added them to the pot with a bunch of sticks from outside, stuck them on oasis foam.
Added some rope and some  moss and called it a day.

 (Ignore the empty frame)

So what do you think???

Does it need somethin' somethin' in the middle?

A Fall Photo Shoot

Hello!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

It was a crispy weekend around these parts... the kind of weather that I love!

While hubby was away golfing with some work friends, the kids and I headed to the park for an impromtu photo shoot.  I told them to get dressed in black and white.  That's all I said, and let them use their imaginations.  The older two dressed the little guy.

If I hired a local photographer whose work I love (with a really nice camera) our little photo shoot would have cost me a fortune.  I took alot of pictures, I'll just show a few that I took, and then I used Picasa to "fix".

So here we go...

S. is wearing clothes that she bought at a garage sale this summer, and a red necklace of mine.
Those shoes belonged to my younger sister, S. was excited to find out they are the same shoe size now.
She thinks her Tia is the coolest!

H. is wearing all of S's hand me downs and my necklace too.
She loved when I went into S.'s closet recently and then straight into her room with
all the clothes that S. had outgrown.
She is my little fashionista, for sure.

And here is our little man!
Sweater has been sitting in his closet since before he was born.
I found it while I was pregnant with him and I had to buy it!
This is the first year he has fit into it.

So I went a little nutso with Picasa editting the pictures...

So what do you think?

I definately wish I had a better camera!
Mine takes too long to take the picture and the little guy is not very patient!
I'm saving up on Airmiles to get a really REALLY good one!

I'm hoping to get a Sony or a Nikon DSLR.

Does anyone have camera that is perfect for taking pictures
 of little-ones-that-can't-sit-still-long-enough-for-the-shutter-to-go-off?

I am definately going to have to print off a bunch one or two and put them in frames around the house.
Which one though????  Did I mention I have more?

I'm linking up to some of these parties.

Come and check out some of the other projects.

A Frugal Fall Wreath

It's chilly and crispy today, and it's got me thinking about Fall. All around Blogland everyone is talking Fall. Apparently even the Pottery Barn Catalogue is out with a bunch of fall ideas. (not that I get one).

So I decided to join the bandwagon and start getting ready for Fall.

I ran down to my scary storage room and pulled out my bin with "Fall Decor labelled on it". First thing I saw, was this guy.

My girls named him 'Jack' when he first showed up on our front door. I made him (well not him but the wreath itsef) about 8 or 9 years ago. I was sooo excited to have made him that I put him on door too early cause I opened the door one day to have my neighbour standing there with him in her hands saying "He's cute, but I can't you bring on the Fall yet. You have to wait until at least Sept 15th!" We had a good laugh and I stored Jack for a little while longer.

So I took the whole thing apart and was left with this...

Then I took a bunch of Chrysanthemums that I also found in "Fall Decor" bin and cut them all up.
(No other plant says "fall" like chrysanthemum flowers.)
I'm not sure where these flowers came from cayse I don't remember buying them.

Then I hot glued them to the  wreath and added ribbon.

I think I need more flowers.  What do you think?

This cost me nothing cause I used stuff I had on hand.

Are you on the Fall Bandwagon yet?

I'm linking up to Thrifty Decor Chick's Fall Inspiration party.

And linking to some of these parties.
Weekend Bloggy Reading

And yes... I'm waiting until at least Sept 15th put it up as not to upset the neighbour. :-)
